Milestone Reached at Brand New Food Distribution Centre in Bedford

4th December 2020

ADM has been keeping the development of A F Blakemore’s flagship distribution centre on track despite the challenges of the pandemic.

Construction of A F Blakemore’s state-of-the-art distribution centre on Manton Lane, Bedford is progressing well, with the new building reaching water-tight stage right on schedule.

ADM was commissioned to oversee the development of the 164,850 sq ft multi-temperature distribution facility, by providing a comprehensive package of Construction Management Services on all facets of the project.

With external cladding and floor slabs complete, the first fix, M&E (mechanical & electrical), plaster boarding and construction of the temperature controlled chambers is now underway. In addition, yard slabs and external works are progressing to allow clients early access to the building.

Steven Masic, director, ADM Surveyors Limited said: “We’ve been working closely with our valued client, A F Blakemore, contractors McClaren Construction and fellow consultants to ensure that this exciting development reaches successful completion in Spring 2021 and we’re delighted that, in spite of the current challenges we face, we are on target to achieve this.

“We have implemented our complete Construction Management package that includes acting as Employers Agent, Building Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor and Project Coordinators to ensure that this £20million purpose-built facility is delivered on time and on budget.

“The Manton Lane distribution Centre is A F Blakemore’s largest development project to date and reflects its confidence in its future. It will complement the company’s existing network of distribution centres across the UK and strengthen A F Blakemore’s reputation as a national food distributor.

“ADM has worked with A F Blakemore for many years and we’re delighted that they continue to put their faith in us to deliver construction management solutions that support their business ambitions”.

Commenting on the landmark development Marc Deakin, A F Blakemore said: “ADM have done a fanatic job on behalf of AFB ensuring the development in Bedford meets not only the standard that we require but also that the project is delivered on time and on budget. The best recommendation I can give is that they treat our money like their own”.

When complete the ambient, chilled and frozen distribution warehouse will service North of London and East Anglia and support targeted growth across it’s retail and wholesale divisions.
